This scholarship is designed to support students who are pursuing, or intend to pursue, Akan language studies at the tertiary level, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to the development and preservation of indigenous knowledge and language.

Reviewed by ALDF

All applications are assessed directly by the ALDF team against our eligibility criteria and merit standards. Every decision is made in-house.

Shortlist & Interview

Shortlisted applicants are contacted and invited for an interview with the ALDF scholarship panel before any final decision is communicated.

Award Notification

Successful recipients are notified directly by ALDF and onboarded into the scholarship program, including connection with our scholar network.

Who Can Apply

The scholarship is open to students who meet the following three criteria.

Tertiary-Level Akan Studies

Students currently studying, or intending to study, Akan language at the tertiary level — at a university or accredited higher education institution in Ghana.

Interest in Language Development

A demonstrated and genuine interest in the development of the Akan language — through coursework, community involvement, research, or prior literacy work.

Academic Commitment

A demonstrated record of academic commitment and the capacity to sustain study throughout the scholarship period.

Tuition Support

The scholarship covers full or partial tuition fees for students enrolled in Akan language programs at accredited tertiary institutions in Ghana.(Primary Coverage)

Accommodation

Where applicable, the scholarship includes a contribution toward student accommodation costs, ensuring financial barriers do not interrupt academic progress.(Where Applicable)

Learning Materials

Recipients receive support for textbooks, course materials, and other learning resources required for their Akan language program throughout the academic year.
