ALDF
Advancing Akan literacy through education, research, and community.
The Akan Literacy Development Foundation (ALDF) is a non-profit organisation established to promote sustainable literacy development in the Akan language across Ghana. Despite being the most widely spoken language in Ghana, Akan literacy remains limited — held back by inadequate teaching resources and a lack of culturally relevant materials. ALDF exists to bridge that gap.
To create a literate society in which the Akan language is widely used to promote education, cultural identity, and lifelong learning.
To promote literacy in the Akan language through community programs, educational support, literacy materials development, research, and advocacy.

The scholarship is open to Ghanaian students pursuing studies in the Akan language at the university or community college level. Applications are reviewed annually based on academic merit and commitment to Akan literacy.
We provide professional translation services between Akan (including Twi, Fante, and Asante dialects) and English, for documents, publications, educational materials, and organizational communications.
Teachers can participate in our training workshops, access our literacy resources, and partner with us on community literacy programs. Contact us directly to find out what is available in your region.
ALDF is funded through a combination of individual donations, institutional grants, and partnership contributions. All funds go directly toward scholarships, materials development, teacher training, and research.
You can volunteer your time and skills — as a teacher, translator, researcher, or community organiser. You can also help by spreading awareness about Akan literacy and sharing our resources with your network.
