Preserving Culture. Transforming Futures

The Akan Literacy Development Foundation (ALDF) is committed to promoting literacy in the Akan language through education, research, and community engagement.

A Language Spoken by Millions, Read by Few.

Despite being Ghana's most widely spoken language, Akan has no shortage of voices — but a shortage of readers and writers. Limited teaching resources and few culturally relevant materials mean that literacy in Akan remains out of reach for most. ALDF exists to close that gap.

What We Believe

Every Ghanaian child deserves to read and write in the language of their home.

What We Do

We fund scholars, train teachers, develop materials, and advocate for Akan at every level.
